Of course, to indicate or maintain a temperature, it needs electricity, which this only has through 220V, there is no battery or other power source. So it can only perform this function with a plug. Since it only measures the temperature at one point at the bottom of the water, it under-measures. If I want to reach 40 degrees, I have to set it to 45-50 instead. But it really keeps it after that. It also heats it up there in moments. As a normal thermos (unplugged), I wouldn't say it keeps the heat very well, better than a glass, but the water cools down quite quickly. It is perfect for keeping the water at a constant temperature at home, and I know how much it is and when I need it, it is immediately available. Or if there is no other way to boil water when traveling. Very useful for our baby.
