What is mould and how can you prevent it?
Mould is something no one wants to live with in their home! Mould is actually a microscopic fungus and can come in many different forms. It most often forms indoors where the air is humid and surfaces are damp. There are several types of mould, which can be distinguished by their colour. The most common form of mould in households is brown or black, but there may also be another form with a blue or green tinge. If not hidden (behind wallpaper or furniture, for example), it will often appear as stains on walls, window frames and other surfaces prone to mould growth.

How can mould be prevented?
Here are some tips to help prevent mould growth in your home:
- Don't dry your clothes indoors. If you cannot do this and dry your clothes on a clothes dryer in your home, always ensure good ventilation.
- Even a small amount of heat will reduce condensation, helping to keep walls and windows drier. A towel warmer, heated mirror or underfloor heating can be ideal for damp rooms. This will make your home less prone to mould.
- If you can, you may want to move your bathroom and bedroom furniture just a few centimetres away from the walls, rather than pushing them tightly up against the wall. This will help the air to circulate behind the furniture and prevent condensation and dampness on the walls.
